In a strategic move, Buffalo Bills' general manager Brandon Beane opted to forego addressing the team's need at receiver during the NFL draft's first round on Thursday.

Instead, he orchestrated two trades to completely exit the first round, positioning t

he Bills to kick off the second round with the first pick.

Originally slated to make the 28th selection, the Bills shifted gears by trading down four spots with the Kansas City Chiefs. Later, when Buffalo was on the clock with the 32nd pick, they executed another trade, this time with the Carolina Panthers, moving back one spot.

The decision to trade out of the first round was particularly noteworthy considering the Bills' requirement for a receiver. This need arose following the departure of Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans earlier in the month and the loss of Gabe Davis in free agency.

However, by the time Buffalo made its trade with the Chiefs, four receivers had already been chosen, including Texas receiver Xavier Worthy, who was picked by Kansas City.

Despite foregoing an immediate receiver solution, the Bills maintain ample draft capital with 10 picks overall. Additionally, Beane strategically enhanced the team's draft position by acquiring a third-round pick (95th overall) from Kansas City in exchange for moving down, compensating for Buffalo's previous third-round pick traded to the Green Bay Packers last year.

This previous trade facilitated the acquisition of cornerback Rasul Douglas mid-season. Moreover, with four fifth-round selections, the Bills now possess greater flexibility to address various positions of need throughout the draft.
