PM Asserts: Chinese Workers' Security in Pakistan Non-Negotiable

ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif affirmed on Wednesday that the government remains steadfast in ensuring the security of Chinese workers in Pakistan.

During a meeting with a delegation from the Shanghai Electric Group, headed by Chairman Wu Lei, the Prime Minister pledged full support to Chinese investors for the expansion of ongoing projects.

He encouraged Chinese firms to transition power plants from imported to locally sourced coal and to increase investments i

n the coal mining sector. The Prime Minister received a briefing on projects undertaken by the Shanghai Electric Group.

Highlighting the strong and enduring bond with China, Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed Pakistan's commitment to enhancing friendly relations and bolstering economic cooperation.

The Shanghai Electric Group is currently engaged in projects such as Thar Coal mine development and a 1320MW coal power project, playing a significant role in the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Projects led by the Group in Thar Coal are estimated to save approximately $400 million annually. The meeting was attended by Chairman of Thar Coal Block 1 Power Generation Company, Meng Donghai, Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Khan Cheema, Energy Minister Sardar Awais Khan Leghari, Petroleum Minister Dr. Musaddik Malik, Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission Muhammad Jahanzeb, and relevant senior officials.
