ISLAMABAD: In support of a ceasefire in Gaza, Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has praised a resolution passed by the UN Security Council.

He called on the international community to make sure that the Security Council's resolution requesting an immediate ceasefire in Gaza is carried out.

The continuous Zionist persecution of defenseless Palestinians in Gaza, according to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, must to end immediately.

According to

the prime minister, Israel's savage attacks have claimed the lives of thousands of women and children. Israel destroyed Gaza's hospitals and refugee camps on purpose, which is abhorrent.

According to him, Pakistan will keep helping its Palestinian neighbors establish a state based on their pre-1967 borders.

Following the United States' abstention from the vote, the UN Security Council on Monday requested an immediate truce between Israel and Palestinian fighters, Hamas, as well as the prompt and unconditional release of all hostages.

The resolution, which was put forth by the body's ten elected members, received the votes of the remaining fourteen council members.

Earlier in the almost six-month-old conflict in the Gaza Strip, Washington had opposed the term "ceasefire" and had used its veto authority to defend American ally Israel as it retaliated against Hamas for an attack on October 7 that Israel claims claimed 1,200 lives.
